MALTA Malta Public Transport has announced that it received the third and final delivery of 62 new buses on September 11, Malta Today reported.
It brings the total of new buses to 142 in time for the launch of the new routes, which started September 13.
In a statement issued by the company, it was revealed that the first delivery of 80 buses made it to Malta earlier this summer and the buses were immediately put into service thus increasing the overall capacity of the network.
The statement said: “The Turkish company Otokar has built the new buses purposely for the Maltese public transport network.
“The buses are shorter and narrower than the older buses already in the network and they are easier to manoeuvre on certain routes.”
The statement says that some of the older vehicles are being replaced, and adds that the new buses have so far received very positive comments from drivers and the general public.
“The Otokar buses are low-floor, providing easy access for wheelchairs and less mobile passengers,” the statement continues, adding that the buses have a capacity of 60 passengers and are equipped with Euro 6 engines.
The company adds that customers are invited to enquire on the customer care helpline 2122 2000 for more information on the new buses and on the new routes.
