First Bus strikes in Huddersfield which were planned between December 16 and 18 were suspended following positive discussions between trade union officials and the company.

Paul Matthews, Managing Director of First West Yorkshire, said: “I’m very pleased that these planned strikes have been suspended and our customers can continue using First bus services in this very busy period.

“Discussions with union representatives have been very encouraging and we look forward to making further progress next month when talks will reconvene.”

Phil Bown, from Unite, said: “We’ve reached an agreement to suspend the strikes so we can explore other avenues.

“We’re very hopeful we can find a settlement to this dispute that suits all parties.

“Drivers don’t want to strike, it’s a last resort.

“We’re pleased to get a point now where we can suspend further action and allow the talks to go ahead.”
