East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s transport team has gone the extra mile to contribute towards the success of the annual Festival of Christmas, held recently in Beverley.

The council offered free coach parking at the town’s coach park, attracting 30 coaches from all over the country – up significantly from last year’s total of 12. This brought 1,261 visitors to the town.

The Festival of Christmas featured a range of attractions including street artists, dancers, craft stalls, specialist food and drink stalls, Santa and Cairngorm reindeer and more.

Council staff were on hand to welcome the coaches to the town, and ensure smooth arrivals and departures.

Last year saw the opening of a new 10-bay coach park in the heart of Beverley, from which coach passengers have a short walk to all of the key attractions within the town.

Cllr Jane Evison, the council’s Portfolio Holder for Economy, Investment and Inequalities, said: “I am delighted with the success of this year’s event and that, unlike many other local authorities, we are able to offer coach operators free parking, which can only serve to attract more coach parties to the East Riding, and so benefit our local economy. It’s vital that we offer our visitors the complete package, in the hope that we will soon be welcoming them back again.”
