Sizergh Castle and Garden is a great stop-off point when travelling to the Lake District, as it’s located near Kendal, five miles from junction 36 of the M6.
The imposing house is surrounded by an impressive garden which features a lake, a collection of hardy ferns and herbaceous borders and the National Trust’s largest limestone rock garden – all in a 1,600-acre estate.
Footpaths provide walks from the castle to dramatic viewpoints over Morecambe Bay and Lakeland hills.
Coach parking is 250 yards from the entrance, with closer drop-off points available.
Visitors can grab a meal in the Strickland Arms pub and pop into the Low Sizergh farm shop.
Group admission is £7.65, or £5 for the garden only. Email [email protected] or ring 015395 60951.
