Grettons Coaches of Peterborough has confirmed it is to cease operations on 3 April, following the passing of founder Roger Gretton last October.
Roger’s wife Linda, who took over the business after the loss of her husband, explained to CBW why the business has been forced to come to an end.
“It is with great sadness that I have to announce the closure of Grettons Coaches of Peterborough on Friday 3 April 2020,” she began.
“After providing home to school transport in Peterborough for over 40 years along with an international private hire service, we have had to make the difficult decision to close down the business.
“This has been largely due to the fact that our current lease at our business premises in Newark Road expires in June of this year and we have been unable to find suitable alternative premises from which to operate.
“My late husband started the business back in 1979 and it was my intention to continue his legacy alongside my daughters Jo and Ally for several years to come. Sadly, however, this was not to be.
“As a company we are proud of our reputation over the years to have employed many loyal, hard-working staff and it is their commitment and hard work that has contributed greatly to our success.
“My daughters and I will miss the coach industry which, in spite of many changes and challenges over the years, has provided us with a very enjoyable and satisfying career.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers past and present for their loyalty and support as we bid you a fond farewell.”
The company is to hold an open day at The Arnwood Centre, Newark Road, Peterborough (PE3 6LD) from 1100 to 1600hrs on Saturday 4 April 2020. At the event, there will be an opportunity to purchase vehicles, tools and equipment, and refreshments will be served throughout.
