Rhyl-based JWS (Cars) LTD, which trades as Coastline Coaches, has surrendered its operating licence and ceased to operate bus services and all private hire and day excursions from 13 July.
In May 2018 the company, run by Director Wendy Parker and Transport Manager Les Peake, loaned £100,000 from the Development Bank of Wales and HSBC to upgrade its Ffordd Las depot and purchase two new vehicles.
The new Optare’s, a Metrocity and a Solo SR, were purchased to operate services 55 and X5 which runs between Ruthin, Corwen, Llangollen and Wrexham, along with routes 40, 56, 61 from Denbigh to Rhyl.
Denbighshire County Council has replaced the 40, 56 and 61 services with a Taxi bus operated by its own transport unit with a minimum of eight seats on a Tuesday and Friday only.
Coach excursions were offered to destinations such as Bury Market in the North West of England, as well as tours around its native North Wales area. The last of these operating on 1 June.
A Denbighshire Council spokesman told North Wales Live: “We are aware of Coastline’s intention to stop running a number of bus services after their last operation on Saturday, 13 July.
“The Council’s Passenger Transport service immediately went out to tender to find a temporary replacement bus service and can confirm that Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth have been chosen to run the numbers X5 and 55 services.
“Meanwhile, discussions are on-going to find an alternative provider for the other bus services currently operated by Coastline in Denbighshire. Details about these services will be confirmed in the coming few days.”
No reason has been given for the company surrendering its operator’s licence, but it is understood that the taxi side of the business will continue to operate.
