The launch of the First Glasgow ADL E400MMC last week also quietly heralded another landmark for the UK bus industry, the first vehicle to enter service that features mirrorless technology.

21st Century Technology has been working with ADL, FirstGroup, Trent Barton and Vision Systems for just under two years to bring the UK’s first mirrorless buses to the market with the main driving force being safety.

Smart Vision, made by France based Vision Systems, offers the driver a normal mirror view at the top of the monitor and a wide angle view in the lower half.

The Camera lens is also heated, meaning that the driver has full vision in all weather conditions day or night.

At present there are two vehicles in operation in the UK, First Glasgow ADL E400MMC 33201, SK68 LWN for route 75 and Trent Barton ADL E200MMC 129, YX68 ULA which has just featured in the launch for the i4 service.

Meanwhile the system is already in use in Geneva and Northern France.

21st Century Technology is the sole UK distributor for Smart Vision.
