Solaris Bus & Coach is to supply German operator Freiburger Verkehrs AG with 15 electric buses – five Urbino 12 and 10 articulated Urbino 18 models.
“I am extremely honoured that Freiburg has decided once again in favour of our electric vehicle range. It is wonderful to observe the dynamic development of an electric transportation network in Germany and in Europe, and to be part of that transformation at the same time. Solaris wants to actively support the transition of transport towards a more resident and environmentally friendly mode,” said Petros Spinaris, Deputy CEO of Solaris.
The Urbinos will be equipped with Solaris High Power batteries; 180 kWh in the articulated vehicles, 150 kWh for the rigid buses and will use fast recharging via the roof-mounted pantograph. Drive will be via an electric axle with two integrated electric motors of 125 kW each.
The buses will be fitted with an air-conditioning system with a heat pump and the have USB ports installed both in the driver’s cab and the passenger saloon. In lieu of conventional side mirrors, the buses will feature cameras and screens for better visibility in bright sunlight as well as in rain and at night.
