Hampshire-based Xelabus has taken delivery of three Wrightbus Gemini-bodied Volvo B5LH parallel hybrid double-deckers.
The vehicles utilise stop-start technology, meaning when the buses are stationary at bus stops or in traffic congestion, the electric motors take over until the vehicle reaches 20mph when the engine restarts.
Managing Director, Gareth Blair, said: “These buses show our ongoing commitment to the local community to drive forward our plans to continually invest in cleaner, greener buses.
“These buses are the first of their type in Hampshire and will be a huge benefit to the environment.”
The buses are intended to work on our X4 bus service between Hedge End and Eastleigh and on Itchen College bus services though partnership with Itchen College.
