Nominations for the UK Coach Awards (UKCA) 2016 are now open and can be submitted until January 16. The awards ceremony will take place at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester on April 21.

UKCA Chairman Allan Edmondson said: “All the research shows that providing incentives such as award schemes can unlock real benefits for employers, providing opportunities to improve motivation and promote the business. Our award categories reflect the diverse skills required to deliver high quality coach operations. We all know that the right people really do make a difference which is why the people categories feature so highly once more in our 2016 competition.

“The categories cover a broad a spread of tasks, and offer everybody in the industry the chance of recognition for their efforts. That way, we can provide inspiration for the future.”

Allan added: “We aim to involve as wide a cross section of our people as possible, including drivers, engineers, young professionals, customer-facing staff and support personnel. Meanwhile our technical and professional awards aim to recognise and reward the skills needed to deliver a successful and growing business. At the same time, our awards for coach operation give companies a fantastic chance of promoting their brand.”

For 2016, the awards are maintaining their strong emphasis on getting nominations from customers – particularly group organisers and tour operators who actually use coaches and know the operators and drivers who serve them best. However, the operating categories are once again open to self-nomination, as is done successfully for the UK Bus Awards.

“This scheme is all about highlighting and extolling the skills, commitment and sheer hard work delivered every day by thousands of drivers, fitters, office staff and managers – all devoted to getting people where they want to go, giving them a safe and pleasant journey and a great time when they get there: we hope everybody will get on board with us.”
