The X61 is one of four services offering the discounted fares

National Express West Midlands (NXWM) is cutting bus fares for Birmingham students and NHS staff.

The operator has just introduced a £1 single trip University Hop between Selly Oak and Birmingham city centre.

Managing Director of NXWM, Tom Stables, commented: “We want to make it cheaper and easier for our hardworking NHS staff and Birmingham University students to get to work and to their lectures, so we’ve cut our single fares for them to get to work or uni from the city centre.”

The University of Birmingham’s Sustainable Travel Co-ordinator, Peter Edwards, commented: “We welcome this fantastic offer from National Express which will help staff and students save money and make bus travel more attractive.

“The University of Birmingham actively encourages the use of public transport to both staff and students to help reduce congestion locally, improve air quality and reduce pressure on car parking, so offers like these really help people to make a more sustainable everyday travel choice.

“Getting from the university campus to the city centre for just £1 is a real bargain that will especially be welcomed by our students.”

The £1 University Hop is valid on the X61, 63, X64 and 98 buses, but only for NHS staff and University of Birmingham staff and students. The ticket can be bought at any stop between Birmingham city centre and Griffins Brook Lane bus stop or Weoley Hill bus stop.
