The coach industry in Mid Wales has lost one of its characters, with the passing of John Llywellyn Williams.
Shortly after getting married in 1955 to Mary, who survives him, he founded Williams Coaches of Cwmdu. The firm evolved to become one of the region’s well-known operators – Williams of Brecon after its move to the nearby market town of that name.
While John took on a more leisurely role in recent times, he maintained a keen interest in in both the coach and motor trade side of the business.
John died peacefully at the age of 82 at the family home on Wednesday (April 13) morning.
The funeral will take place at St. Gastyn’s Church, Llangasty, Brecon, LD3 7PX at 1100hrs on Tuesday, April 26. Family flowers only, but donations if desired to Macmillan Nurses or Crickhowell Group Practice c/o A V Griffiths & Son, Funeral Directors, Delfan, Felinfach, Brecon, Powys, LD3 OUD.
Paying tribute, his son Gwyn, who today is director of the family-owned coach operation, told CBW: “We all owe my father so much. He will be greatly missed.”
