UK technology company Passenger has delivered a new mobile app with a range of features to Xplore Dundee. The app includes mobile ticketing, journey planning, disruption notifications, live bus tracking and enhanced vehicle information including real-time occupancy for social distancing measures.
It also includes a contact-free online verifications service for age-restricted tickets, provided by Passenger, to help deliver Xplore Dundee’s child, Young Scot, and student tickets offered for a number of educational establishments in the area including the University of Dundee.
Christine McGlasson, Managing Director for Xplore Dundee said: “We’re delighted to be starting 2021 by launching a brand new app. Our customers need up-to-date information and the right tools to confidently plan their travel during these challenging times. Passenger has worked quickly to deliver an app that we all hope will help keep our users choosing to travel by bus whenever they can.”
McGill’s Buses purchased Xplore Dundee from National Express in December 2020, and has worked with Passenger since 2018. To ensure a smooth transition for users of the current Xplore Dundee app, Passenger has managed a seamless migration of all active tickets from Xplore Dundee’s previous app provider to Passenger Cloud.
Helen Connolly, Head of Customer Services at Passenger said: “It’s been lovely to work with National Express, Xplore Dundee and McGill’s teams on this project. We were able to satisfy National Express’ complex requirements before a smooth handover to McGill’s, who we have worked with for a number of years. We are all very excited to be launching an app to help Xplore Dundee’s customers plan and pay for their journeys safely and securely.”
