The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is asking bus operators for information on their existing services, as it begins to assess ways to reform the area’s bus network.

The Combined Authority is putting together a business case looking at available bus operational models, including franchising and enhanced partnerships, as set out in the Bus Services Act 2017.

The business case, as well as the necessary audit and consultation, is scheduled to be completed in early 2021.

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer has said that the bus network as it stands is not delivering effectively for people in the area and said that “change needs to happen.”

The process of developing the business case assessment of options has now started and the input of operators on their existing services will feed into that work.

The Combined Authority is set to go out to consultation on its Local Transport Plan over the summer and the bus network will form a key pillar of an overall integrated strategy to 2050.
