John McMillan, Provost for East Lothian and Ross Prentice, Managing Director of Prentice Coaches

Prentice Coaches, working in conjunction with Transport Scotland, has formally launched its new smartcard products which the operator said are now quicker, easier, durable, and much more convenient for its passengers.

Smartrip allows passengers to purchase paperless tickets anytime, anywhere through the web portal or app. After pre-purchasing online, passengers then simply tap onboard and go.

Following the introduction of the sQuid e-purse pay-as-you-go smartcard option last year, Prentice Coaches can now offer a 10-journey carnet, together with seven and 28 day passes. The products are stored on the Smartrip card and are available for either the Urban or Rural Zones, or an All Zones network, with options for adults, children, and for discounted staff travel.

The card has been trialled by passengers on both Prentice Coaches’ commercial routes and those operated for East Lothian Council, allowing seamless travel across the network.

Additionally, Transport Scotland has chosen Prentice Coaches to pilot the new saltirecard app which allows passengers to ‘pick up’ their product within a few minutes of purchase online, check a card’s balance and much more.
