Isle of Wight ferry operator Red Funnel Ferries has reported a record breaking season so far, underpinned by a 3.3% increase in the number of sailings on its Southampton/East Cowes route.

The ferry operator carried 9.6% more coaches, as well as 4.7% more cars and 2.8% more passengers, in the first eight months of the year compared to 2014 – outperforming the total cross-Solent market which saw an increase of 3.1% and 1.3% in cars and passengers respectively between January and August vs. the same period last year.

Customer satisfaction has also improved, with 94% of customers rating Red Funnel as excellent or good in reviews posted via Feefo compared to 92% in 2014.

Kevin George, CEO of Red Funnel, said: “It has been a busy year for the company as we continue to invest heavily in improving the travel experience for our customers.

“The £2.2m interior refurbishment of Red Osprey in April has been a huge success and the £6m order for Red Jet 6 underlines our commitment to the Southampton/West Cowes route.”
