Industry comes together to support Seaford & District in its efforts to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Andy Izatt reports

Seaford & District’s (S&D) August Bank Holiday Monday Running Day in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was blessed with glorious summer sunshine. Buses ran for free on a half hour frequency across two routes, S&D’s established summer 124 between Lewes and Eastbourne and a service created especially for the day, the 123 linking Lewes with Seaford. Vehicles were decorated appropriately and the numerous open-toppers used attracted particularly good loadings. All donations made went to the charity and by the following morning when CBW went to press had reached £2,888.76, but the total was still rising as online donations continued to come in.

Seaford & District’s Proprietor Dave Mulpeter decided to hold the event as a way of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support which has supported his wife Angela during her treatment for the illness. Underling the regard with which he is held, both major operators in the area, Go-Ahead owned Brighton & Hove Buses and Stagecoach South supplied appropriate buses and there was also support from Worthing-based Southdown Historic Vehicles, ByeWays Vintage Bus Hire from Aldington in Kent, and numerous industry professionals and preservationists. The lives of many of those involved had been touched by cancer and Dave had sincere thanks for all of them for their help. Such has been the day’s success a date for next year has already been set – August 27, 2018.
