Ski resorts such as Courchevel and Tignes are seeking ways to decarbonise their transport networks. SAFRA

As part of a mobility plan for the mountain regions, resorts such as Courchevel and Tignes are looking into the feasibility of introducing hydrogen technology for public transport in the towns and villages that support the region’s ski resorts. The towns of Moûtiers, Courchevel and Tignes have worked with hydrogen specialist HYmpulsion, bus manufacturer Safra and the GEG Group on a demonstration project, which is taking place throughout April, including a distribution station in Moûtiers, and the trial of Safra’s HyCity bus.

The partners say the aim of the demonstration is to highlight the comparative advantages of hydrogen over other decarbonisation solutions. A partnership of local and national stakeholders, HYmpulsion’s refuelling stations distribute renewable hydrogen, produced by water electrolysis. It has planned the construction and operation of more than 15 renewable hydrogen stations, powered by a 2MW electrolyser.
