Contactless cards can now be used to pay bus fares across the Stagecoach Yorkshire network

Stagecoach’s rollout of contactless payment technology has reached South Yorkshire.

The new system allows customers to pay with contactless credit or debit cards, as well as Apple Pay and Android Pay on their smartphones.

Contactless is now live on Stagecoach Yorkshire buses across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire – benefiting local passengers who make around 45 million journeys through the year. New dedicated ticket machines have been installed on the fleet of 384 buses.

Matt Davies, Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “More people are using contactless cards to pay for meals, leisure activities and many other day-to-day purchases, and so it’s important customers have the option when it comes to travel, too.

“Contactless technology is the latest improvement we have made to Stagecoach services and is convenient and more secure way for our customers to pay for their bus travel.

“Stagecoach Yorkshire is continuing to invest in its services, with contactless payment following the recent introduction of smart-ticketing, a smartphone app and mobile ticketing.”
