Stagecoach Manchester has joined together with local primary schools to plant a selection of trees, representing its new fleet

Middleton-based, Parkfield Primary School and Middleton Parish C of E School encouraged pupils to lend a helping hand in an event held last week. The children helped to plant 22 Cherry, Birch and Mountain Ash saplings. The trees were planted to represent the 22 vehicles that entered service as of Monday, April 3.

Stagecoach Manchester has invested £4.6m into the double-deckers, which will be replacing the original fleet of single-deckers. The new vehicles complete with USB points and WiFi will be run on services 112 linking Boarshaw and Piccadilly Gardens, alongside the 114 and 118 routes linking Manchester and Middleton.

In keeping with the green theme, the buses are fitted with the latest Euro 6 emission standard engines.

Elisabeth Tasker, Managing Director at Stagecoach Manchester, said: “We’ve invested heavily in providing the people of Middleton with the very latest double decker buses to make sure their travel is as relaxing, practical and affordable as possible.

“It is a priority of ours as a key local business to play a big part in helping to improve our local environment and by working with local schools to renovate their outdoor spaces, we are able to teach the younger generation about the importance of green initiatives.”
