Lothian Buses is holding its annual Central Garage Doors Open Day this coming Saturday (September 23).

The garage – at 55 Annandale Street, Edinburgh, EH7 4AZ –will be open between 1200hrs and 1600hrs. “We’re urging people to come for the start – the opening will be in spectactular style,” a Lothian spokesperson told CBW.

A variety of heritage buses will operate duplicates on part of route 26 between Haymarket and Eastfield. Two surprise vehicles will be in attendance, which will be of interest to bus and coach industry professionals and enthusiasts alike – organisers remained tight-lipped as this issue went to press on Monday.

This year, the event will support Lothian’s charity of choice – Macmillan Cancer Support –which will be in attendance with Lothian’s eye-catching tartan-branded Wrightbus-bodied Volvo double-decker. Visitors who buy one of the Doors Open Day programmes in support of the Macmillan have the chance to win a range of new merchandise. Souvenirs available to buy at the event will include limited edition t-shirts, vintage running day mugs, bus stop flags and calendars. Last year the event attracted 10,000 visitors in just four hours.
