For a man facing radical – and relatively rapid – changes in the bus operating environment on his doorstep, Andrew Jarvis appears remarkably calm and collected.
But then FirstGroup’s boss for Scotland has been steeped in the industry from the earliest age through family business interests, even occupying that other driving seat behind a PCV steering wheel and more recently as a senior executive at Stagecoach.
When we meet, it’s to discuss 10 spanking new £260,000-a-piece ADL Enviro400 City double-deckers, now entering service. They come in the striking livery of the Glasgow Airport Express 500 route, shiny with their alloy wheels, latest-tech mirrorless camera rear view systems, coach-style seating and upper saloon tables with wireless phone chargers.
