All of the double-deckers are 10.6m, twin-door models
Tower Transit has placed an order for 28 new Wrightbus StreetDeck HEV double-deckers, which are set to enter service in London next summer. These are Tower Transit’s first StreetDeck HEVs, but the operator runs a number of StreetLite single-deckers already.
The operator says it decided to go for the HEV due to the fuel savings it demonstrated in testing. Built to full TfL specification, all of the StreetDeck HEVs are twin-door, 10.6m variants.
A Daimler OM934 Euro VI engine powers the buses, with a Voith D854.6 gearbox helping drive the wheels. Electronic power steering and stop/start functionality are also fitted.
David Barnett, Business Development Director for Wrightbus, said: “The main reasons Tower Transit has opted for the StreetDeck HEV is based upon the anticipated fuel savings, low cost of ownership, and the environmental credentials of our HEV system.
“Purchasing a well-engineered low voltage hybrid driveline was an important consideration for Tower Transit and we are pleased that they have come to us for their latest order to service some of their busy London routes.”
Satnam Cheema, Group Engineering Director for Tower Transit, added: “We have purchased these vehicles based on the expected levels of fuel efficiency and overall environmental performance. We’ve always experienced good performance from Wrightbus and look forward to see how the StreetDeck HEV performs when its enters service with our fleet next year.”
Other features on the buses include Smartblinds, a full 15-camera CCTV system, a powered ramp to the mid-door and a reversing camera.
