Turin adds more BYD ebuses

ITALY Turin bus operator GTT (Gruppo Torinese Trasporti) has ordered four more all-electric ebuses from BYD to join 16 ordered last September when the Chinese manufacturer secured Italy’s first big tender for 12m all-electric buses – 19 units all together comprising 16 for GTT and three for SUN – Novara.

The tender announced by GTT in the autumn of 2015 was the first modular tender for the purchase of large electric buses and the 20 ebuses will be in service from September 2017 on urban-suburban transport networks managed by it. BYD will provide full service support for 10 years.

The Mayor of Turin, Ms Chiara Appendino, said: “Our new BYD ebus fleet will help us to offer Turin residents a cleaner environment and better air quality, something all cities are striving for.”
