VDL is developing an electric minibus.

The company said its MidCity Electric is an important step in the expansion of VDL Bus & Coach’s zero emission electric bus range, meeting the needs of small-scale passenger transport.

The fully electric minibus is eight metres in length and designed for use in both city centres, where its emission-free nature allows it to operate in low emission zones, along with sparsely populated areas. The bus has a lowered floor that provides easy access for regular passengers and wheelchair users.

In addition, the wheelbase extension allows flexibility in the type and number of seats the vehicle can offer.

The MidCity Electric features a 87 kWh battery, which VDL claims has a maximum range of 220km (137 miles).

VDL Bus & Coach expects to introduce the new electric model in 2018.
