World leaders and dignitaries will arrive at St Paul’s Cathedral for Her Majesty’s funeral by coach, reports politics and policy news organisation Politico. Foreign heads of state and their spouses heading to London have been asked to arrive on commercial flights and banned from using helicopters to travel around. World leaders have also been told they cannot use their own state cars to attend the funeral, which will take place at Westminster Abbey on 19 September. Instead, they will be bussed en masse from an unkown site in west London.
Official documents obtained by Politico show that on the day of the funeral, the heads of state and their partners will arrive at Westminster Abbey in escorted coaches from a location in west London, where they will be required to leave their own cars because of “tight security and road restrictions.”
“Multiple and comprehensive layers of security will be in place across London and at all the official venues used for the state funeral and associated events,” said a second Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office document seen by the news agency detailing the logistical arrangements for those arriving from overseas states.
After the funeral service, foreign leaders will be escorted on foot to Dean’s Yard, within the grounds of the abbey, to attend a reception hosted by Foreign Secretary James Cleverly. They will then return by coach to west London, Politico reports.
