Pelican Bus & Coach says that after re-testing its zero-emission single-deck buses, they are ‘officially best in class.’ Ian Downie, Head of Yutong Bus UK, explained: “Our latest vehicles are now fitted with 422kWh water cooled batteries rather than the previously tested vehicle which had air cooled 295kWh batteries. Coupled with this, the vehicles now feature our market leading Yutong Electric Safety System (YESS) which has several safety features, including constantly circulating nitrogen over the batteries. This means that not only are they the most efficient, we have established new market leading safety standards too.

“We retested an E12, destined for Newport Bus, at Millbrook using the ZEMO accredited Ultra Low Emission Bus test. The certificate we have received shows we are best in class in terms of energy efficiency, potential vehicle operating range and charging efficiency. Our vehicles are a massive 77% better in terms of ‘well to wheel’ greenhouse gas emissions than a Euro VI equivalent. Our integral vehicle is optimised to provide the most efficient operation of the vehicle in service. The vehicle also used our full air conditioning during the test, providing 9 degrees over ambient comfort into the saloon.”

“With more Yutong single deck vehicles entering service in towns and cities across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, these results fully evidence the environmental, operational and safety benefits of our products and services. Our zero-emission single deck buses are supplemented with the only zero-emission interurban bus/coach available in the UK, as well as our ABe13 zero emission airside bus. With our continued success with our diesel coach range, we are well placed to serve our operators throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.”
