The vehicle has reached this milestone just two and a half years after its initial launch

The 1,000th i6 manufactured at the Irizar plant in Ormaiztegi (northern Spain) was presented to its new owners, Krakow-based Link Bus, at an event hosted in the Irizar facility.

The i6 was launched at the Madrid International Bus and Coach Fair (the FIAA exhibition) in November 2010. Two years later, such has been its popularity, the model has sold well into markets around the world – across Europe and into South American countries, Australia, South Africa and Mexico. The 1000th unit is in addition to the more than 800 units sold at other Irizar production plants since last year.

The official Australian launch took place in July 2010 in Melbourne with prototypes of the 13.4m and 14.5m versions built to comply with demanding Australian ADR homologation requirements. The Australian presentation was followed by deliveries to South Africa at an event last August in the city of Centurion where two 14m i6 coaches had been imported directly from Brazil.

Irizar said the product’s adaptation to specifications for Brazil and other South American countries had required ‘strong efforts.’ The official launch took place at the Expo-onibus Fair, October 3-5 at Rio de Janeiro’s Riocentro Convention Centre. Four different versions of the new Irizar i6 coach were displayed.

In Mexico, the official launch of the new i6 took place on November 8 at the Polyforum Siqueiros in Mexico City, where executives from the most important passenger transport and tourism companies were in attendance.

The Irizar i6 is currently manufactured as an integral coach as well as a body for all the chassis brands available on the market. It is highly versatile due to the different configurations offered, with lengths ranging from 10.7m to 15m, three widths from 2.5m to 2.6m, and two heights of 3.5m and 3.7m. Each version has a wide variety of options which allow i6 to be adapted to the most demanding customer and market requirements.

Irizar says the i6 is a versatile high-end coach which is ideal for commuter and touring services. It stands out because of its key design features of attractive and practical design, its aerodynamic shape, attention to detail and passenger comfort. Overall, the manufacturer is confident the i6 is a ‘state-of-theart,’ safe, reliable and profitable coach.
