The former directors of recently liquidated Geoff Amos Coaches have delivered a poignant message following the recent demise of firm.
As reported in CBW998, the firm called in insolvency practitioners when it became clear wages and other liabilities could not be paid.
After 57 years of operations, Brian Amos and Shirley Smith, son and daughter of founder Geoff, said in a message posted on the firm’s website that the company “would be greatly missed” and questioned whether days for smaller operators are to be numbered.
Shirley said: “Fuel prices, regulatory requirements and the vagaries of contracting in the industry means economies of scale will drive the smaller outfits out, leaving only the more national operators able to continue.” She added: “It was always a close, family-run business, where everybody working, full or part time worked closely with directors and their relatives who also worked in the business.
“As the doors were being closed one loyal employee ensured a Cancer charity trip, over the weekend, was able to go ahead without knowing, for sure, if he would be paid for his efforts.”
The ex-directors also said they hoped the business taking over Geoff Amos bus service routes, and other local firms, may provide job opportunities for its now unemployed drivers.
