Go Ahead-owned Bluestar in Southampton has unveiled 18 new buses for the city.
The operator has made a significant investment in the ADL Enviro200 single-deckers, and will run them across its Bluestar 18 route.
“We are incredibly proud of our new vehicles. And this is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers wishing to travel across Southampton,” said Andrew Wickham, Managing Director of Bluestar.
“Customers here were very clear about the enhancements they wanted to see on this popular service and we have listened to them. On-board technology includes free WiFi and USB charging points for smartphones and hand-held devices.
“In fact, we have invested more than £3m in these buses for our Millbrook, Shirley, city centre, Bitterne and Hightown route – and we’re looking forward to seeing them out and about, transporting those who use this service whilst living in or visiting Southampton.”
Andrew Wickham was joined at the launch by representatives from Southampton City Council – including leader of the council, Simon Letts and cabinet member for environment and transport, Jacqui Rayment.
Cllr Letts said: “This is an excellent example of a local bus operator demonstrating its commitment to our city. The new buses represent a significant investment from Bluestar and I know they’ll be appreciated by those travelling on them.”
Cllr Rayment added: “I’m delighted to see this fleet of impressive new buses for the Bluestar 18 route. It follows hot on the heels of bus service enhancements here in Southampton – and the introduction of a new service to the General Hospital.”
The event also provided an opportunity for local people to take a closer look at some of the new buses – and enjoy a host of festive treats.
