Guernsey’s bus passenger figures have risen for a second year in a row despite a fall in the number of journeys taken at the height of the tourist season, the BBC has reported.
In 2015, there were 1,506,801 journeys compared to 1,467,103 in 2014.
On a monthly basis however, four months in 2015 saw a decline with the largest fall, 12,617 journeys, in August.
Since April 2012, the service has been run on behalf of the States by CT Plus, part of Hackney Community Transport Group. The company started a new five-and-a-half year contract in April.
An Environment Department statement said: “Following the recent introduction of a new pay-as-you-go smart card in November and with new unlimited travel products and free student travel on all services to follow in the next few months, the future of bus travel in the island is looking particularly encouraging.”
The statement also highlighted that August is ‘traditionally the busiest month of the year when visitors to the island add significantly to the monthly bus passenger totals.’
