Following a free travel day in the Medway area on Saturday, February 13, Arriva has analysed the effect of charging no fares for the day and, compared to normal Saturdays at the same time of year

The operator saw an uplift of 34% in the number of people travelling on the day.

Arriva Marketing Manager Richard Lewis said: “We decided to run all our services in the Medway Towns last Saturday free of charge as both a loyalty reward for our existing customers and as an incentive to non-users to try the bus free of charge for the first time.

“The effect was an uplift of 34% in the number of journeys made compared to other Saturdays at this time of the year with which we are very pleased.

“We hope that people that had not used the bus before will have realised the convenience of doing so and will leave the car at home and use our services in future for some of their journeys.”
