A Devon story, but not from our usual correspondent in those parts. CBW’s publisher Jonathan Taylor and his wife Sarah were on holiday in the South West, “driving through the fabulous narrow-laned Devon countryside,” to use Jonathan’s words, approaching the beautiful Saxon town of Chulmleigh.

“Sarah and I were surprised to come up behind this Stagecoach double decker bus. Just round the corner, it arrived in the town and got stuck in the main street, the driver having tried to make it through parked vehicles, but found himself with just an inch or less either side.

“Eventually someone came to his rescue and moved a car. Locals said it happens twice a day,” explained Jonathan. “The driver was very good and should be entering Bus Driver of the Year!”

The UK National Final of this year’s Bus Driver of the Year competition, incidentally, will be taking place in around a month’s time in Blackpool over the first weekend in September.
