Ensignbus has launched a new app for its local bus services. Called ‘Ensign Gateway,’ it can be downloaded for free from the relevant app stores – being compatible with Android and Apple devices.
“It’s only been available for a couple of weeks, but we’re already reaping the benefits,” Peter Newman told CBW: “We’ve seen a reduction in the number of telephone enquiries – the app means the information can be obtained literally at passengers’ fingertips.”
Developed by Global Digital, the app enables users to track in real-time all the firm’s services out on the road, to calculate the best fares between stops and to get accurate estimations of a bus’ arrival at a stop. In addition to being able to access timetables with ease, students at Palmers College South Essex College can purchase their college season tickets trough the app.
Peter added: “The next thing is to introduce smartcards on all our school and college runs, which will work on our Ticketer machines. Benefits include reduced stop dwell time and our drivers will be handling less cash, aiding speed and security. We plan to introduce the technology for all our weekly and monthly fares in due course – hopefully from August or September.”
