Tamworth-based Solus Coaches has taken delivery of its first Euro 6 Scania coach – one of two new Scania Irizar vehicles introduced into the Staffordshire operator’s fleet this month.

The second vehicle has a Scania Euro 5 engine. Both coaches are based on Scania’s K 360 IB4x2 chassis with 360hp Scania engines and are equipped with Scania’s Opticruise fully automated gear selection system and Irizar i6 bodywork.

The 12.45-metre overall length vehicle has 53 reclining seats, three-point seatbelts, DVD player and two monitors, extra dark tinted glass, centre sunken toilet, reversing camera and Durabright alloy wheels.

The Euro 5 vehicle is 12.2-metre overall length and has 51 reclining seats, but is otherwise equipped to the same level as the Euro 6 coach.

Solus Coaches Director Andy Garratt said: “I really like the Scania Irizar combination. It not only has the ‘wow’ factor but I have the knowledge that if anything goes wrong with either the body or chassis I can take it into a Scania dealership anywhere in Europe and they will sort out the problem. “We were honoured to be invited to Spain in September to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Scania and Irizar. As soon as I saw the first Euro 6 coach, I knew I wanted that vehicle, so ordered it that night over dinner.”
