Contactless plastic and smartphones are taking over as bus passengers adopt new ways to pay for travel – but cash isn’t dead just yet. John Lewis reports

Parkeon has provided the contactless facility used on the Airlink 100 Lothian Buses service that links Edinburgh’s airport with the city centre

Passengers who hop onto a First Manchester bus from October onwards will be able to pay for their journey using a contactless card thanks to the introduction of new ticketing machines sourced from Ticketer.

If they would prefer not to use contactless plastic, bus users will be able to flourish a smartphone instead. First Manchester offers an mTickets app, and the tickets can be purchased before you board the bus. […]
