Jonathan Welch finds out more about the role of community transport in Scotland, and the Community Transport Association’s Mapping Scotland project
Minibuses. Community transport. When it comes to image, the community transport sector doesn’t have the cachet of the latest, high-tech ultra-stylish Beulas Glory or the road presence of a 15-metre Plaxton Elite i on its side. There’s not the glitz and glamour of deliveries of large batches of striking new double-deckers, but it’s a vital sector which provides services to millions of people up and down the country.
The voice which represents this part of the industry is the CTA, the Community Transport Association. Over the last few years, the CTA has taken great steps towards better understanding the sector, including its ‘Mapping Scotland’ project, which during 2022 drew together data from operators across the country to give a snapshot of the sector over the previous year.
