AA DriveTech is launching a new full-day emergency and passenger evacuation workshop for all passenger service vehicle drivers.
The company claims that the workshop, which will be bookable from February, is unique to the market and will count towards the periodic driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training for professional coach and bus drivers.
Designed to give drivers the ability to confidently manage a variety of emergency situations, the workshop comprises advice, coping strategies and practical exercises.
Dominic Pargeter, Operations Manager for AA DriveTech’s Commercial and Passenger Vehicle Division, said: “While every emergency scenario is different, much of the time the driver will be on their own with a coach full of people whose welfare depends on his or her reactions to the situation.
“Carrying passengers safely is the number one priority for every professional driver, so it’s imperative that they are equipped to take control and handle an array of incidents. The Emergency and Passenger Evacuation course will help professional drivers to achieve this as part of their periodic CPC training.”
The seven-hour course includes managing risk, evacuation guidance, advice on contacting the emergency services and the principles of using appropriate fire extinguishers.
Drivers are then given the opportunity to use the strategies demonstrated throughout the course to role play different evacuation scenarios in a passenger vehicle.
All candidates will receive a Driver CPC Certificate of Attendance and have their licence details updated on the DVLA website.
