New record breaking ride set to open at Alton Towers
The rollercoaster has 14 loops, smashing the previous record of 11

The new rollercoaster is rumoured to include some mind bending properties…

Alton Towers Resort has unveiled the world’s first 14 loop rollercoaster, The Smiler. The official Guinness World Record for the most loops in a coaster has been broken by the Staffordshire theme park, smashing the previous record of 11. Visitors can experience the ride from Thursday May 23.

The Smiler, which is Alton Towers Resort’s biggest ever investment at £18m, took over eight months to build and features a series of twisted psychological effects including optical illusions, blinding lights and jabbing needles designed to mess with rider’s minds. Not for the faint hearted.

Tom Ibison from Guinness World Records commented: “Alton Towers Resort has smashed the record with The Smiler’s 14 epic inversions – four more than their nearest rival located halfway around the world. We’ve seen a number of extreme rollercoasters open, but it’s so exciting to see such a world class attraction opening here in the UK.”

Groups receive a 35% discount on entry prices and all badgeholding/uniformed drivers can obtain a free entry ticket to the theme park from the coach park host or coach park kiosk on the day of the visit. Coach drivers are also provided with a free hot or cold drink with every breakfast or adult main meal purchased at Towers Family Restaurant.

There is not enough room in Alton Village for two coaches to pass each other therefore drivers are encouraged to drop off and collect outside of the peak arrival period (1000-1100hrs) and departure period (1600-1800).
