Daimler Buses has completed delivery of 864 new buses to operators in the Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML), the region surrounding the country’s capital Lisbon for use on urban and inter-city routes in the region. Deliveries of the Citaro and Conecto low-floor and Intouro inter-urban buses began with 111 vehicles in 2021 and were completed at the end of December 2022.
“The record order from Portugal with 864 Mercedes-Benz buses is an outstanding success for Daimler Buses and a real milestone for EvoBus Portugal,” said Mirko Sgodda, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services at Daimler Buses.
The order consisted of 633 Conecto low-floor buses, 157 Intouro inter-city buses, 50 short-wheelbase Benz Citaro K low-floor buses and four Mercedes-Benz OC 500 bus chassis, along with 20 minibuses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
Operator Alsa Todi took delivery of 154 vehicles and Barraqueiro Transportes led a consortium of operators that included Scotturb, Viação Alvorada, Rodoviária de Lisboa and Vimeca which took 710. Alsa and Barraqueiro are among the largest bus and coach companies on the Iberian Peninsula.
