High interest means demonstration period is expected to last for around a year
With all preparatory work completed, the Scania-ADL gaspowered bus demonstrator is now ready to begin its programme of operator trials and evaluations around the UK. Such are the levels of interest in this all-new, Green Bus Funding-compliant vehicle, that the demonstration period is expected to last for around a year.
To support operators wishing to try gas-power for themselves, a mobile fuelling station capable of refuelling the vehicle in around eight minutes after a typical day’s service has been developed.
Featuring a Scania K UB4x2 chassis with a 270 horsepower Scania OG9 G04 engine, the bus is capable of operating on either Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Bio Natural Gas (BNG). The engine offers high efficiency and low fuel consumption with no need for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). It is based on the same platform as Scania’s modular-build 9.3-litre diesel engine, which limits the number of new components required for the low entry gas chassis to around 40 items.
The 12.2m overall length ADL Enviro300SG body provides seating for a total of 40 passengers. The driver’s seat, Transito saloon seats, rear five-person seating unit and wheelchair bump pad are all finished in E-leather green with cream piping, with the wheelbox and tip-up seats finished in green only. Complementing the seating is Tara bus Gaya Wood 4521 Yellowstone flooring and cool white interior LED lighting. The bus has Hanover electronic type destination equipment with LED illumination. The demonstrator is also equipped with WiFi and a Synectics sevencamera CCTV system.
