More than 4,660 Stagecoach drivers have been awarded Fleet Elite status from the operator’s telematics supplier GreenRoad.

Over 1,700 of Stagecoach’s Fleet Elite drivers achieved the Gold badge for consistently maintaining the Fleet Elite safe and fuel-efficient driving standard for three consecutive years.

Stagecoach drivers account for almost half of the 9,253 drivers globally who met the Fleet Elite standard in 2015. More Stagecoach employees gained Fleet Elite status than in any other bus operator – or other company on the scheme – in the UK and worldwide.

Around 24% of Stagecoach’s 19,000-strong driving team have achieved the benchmark.

Robert Montgomery, Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director, said: “This is another great achievement for our drivers and marks a further increase in the number of our employees who have reached Fleet Elite status.

“It reflect the commitment and professionalism that our drivers display on a daily basis.

“Smoother, fuel-efficient driving is safer, provides more comfortable journeys for our customers and helps cut our carbon footprint.”

Stagecoach has also supported its investment in the GreenRoad technology with a dedicated annual driver bonus pot of around £900,000. Employees can earn ‘green points’ for greener driving, which is converted into a cash bonus.

Dougie Portwood, Head of GreenRoad’s Global Change Management, said: “Again, this year, organisations worldwide recognised the importance of Fleet Elite. GreenRoad drivers promote their Fleet Elite status with pride and work hard to maintain their eligibility for Fleet Elite membership every year.

“Fleet and Safety Managers agree that the Fleet Elite programme has a huge positive impact on driver safety, performance and overall organisational culture.”
