Stagecoach Manchester entered the Chinese New Year – which started on Monday (February 8) – in style after an employee created a unique oriental themed design which has decorated one of the firm’s ADL Enviro400s, number 1938, which is registered ‘MX08UBV.’

To celebrate the Year of the Monkey, Depot Inspector, Edmond Fan, who has worked at Stagecoach Manchester since 2010, designed the artwork in his spare time after an impromptu conversation about the Chinese New Year with his colleagues.

The bus will operate on routes in South and East Manchester for the next 12 months and will carry many passengers who are coming into the city over the next few days to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Stagecoach Manchester Managing Director, Chris Bowles, said: “On a day-to-day basis our staff continually go above and beyond their regular duty.

“Edmond has done that and shown a great deal of enthusiasm and imagination to create this design. It’s great to see Edmond’s design brought to life and for us to reward his creative efforts as well as joining in the celebrations of our Chinese community.

“On behalf of the Stagecoach Manchester team, we’d like to wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year.”

Edmond Fan, creator of the design, said: “I’ve always had an interest in art and design but it’s never been a serious hobby.

“When I initially came up with the idea to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I didn’t ever think my design would be used on one of our buses. I look forward to seeing the bus in service over the coming months.”
