Stagecoach’s Grimsby Simplibus has celebrated its first anniversary by inviting people to a Christmas-themed birthday party on one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

The Simplibus service was launched last year, with a £4m investment which saw a fleet of 28 new buses introduced, with one bus hidden by wrapping paper and unveiled in the centre of Grimsby as an early ‘Christmas present’ for the town.

One year on, and Stagecoach staff were in Grimsby running competitions and games for shoppers, and providing travel information about Simplibus.

The Simplibus birthday party took place at Grimsby Riverhead Exchange on Friday, November 27, which was also ‘Black Friday’ for retailers.

Jon Donnelly, Stagecoach East Midlands Commercial Manager North, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming people to our Simplibus party. We have invested more than £4m in the SImplibus fleet of 23 single-decker and five double-decker buses and I’m delighted that the network has enjoyed a great first year.

“The Christmas Party is a chance to say thank you to some of the many people who use SImplibus to shop, visit friends and commute, and remind shoppers that getting the bus is a great way to beat the parking log-jam this Christmas!”

Shoppers had the opportunity to take part in a Christmas cracker grab with dozens of travel prizes won.

One of the main attractions at the event was bus driver Tony Allan, who entertained everyone with his one man band, together Tony and Simplibus customers raised money for Cancer Research UK. £100 was raised for charity
