Number of New Routemaster in London will reach 1,000 once the vehicles arrive

The Transport for London (TfL) board has been asked to approve the purchase of up to 195 New Routemaster buses.

On January 21, 2016, TfL previously approved 30 additional buses, as reported in CBW1223. The committee requested an option for the purchase of an additional 165.

The initial 30 vehicle order was required for Wrightbus to maintain operation of one of its New Routemaster production lines.

All of the additional buses will include design adjustments, including upper and lower deck opening windows to improve ventilation and alterations to rear doors (mechanism modifications, voice warnings and improved safety markings). The vehicles will also include Microvast batteries, which are expected to have an improved operational performance over the original batteries.

The new order would take to total number of New Routemasters up to 1,000, in keeping with the contract awarded to the manufacturer to supply up to 1,000 vehicles including initial prototypes.
