German operator see benefit from operating lightweight buses
GERMANY VDL Bus & Coach has delivered five Citea LLE buses to ASEAG (Aachner Straßenbahn und Energieversorgungs-AG). ASEAG is responsible for public transport in and around the city of Aachen. One VDL Citea LLE has been in use as part of a trial, since November 2014. Its manufacturer says that it demonstrated how its lightweight construction does indeed result in lower fuel consumption and as a consequence lower emissions.
While the main focus of the bus with its lightweight construction is reducing fuel consumption and as a consequence lower overall emission levels, it still meets the highest safety standards emphasises VDL. Given today’s huge pressure on controlling costs, opting for the lightweight concept is a logical step for public transport operators that have set themselves the dual goal of delivering optimum passenger transport services and reducing harmful emissions.
ASEAG has been responsible for public transport in and around Aachen for more than 130 years. The company’s original goal still applies to this day: delivering tailor-made mobility solutions. With an operating area that takes up some 520 km2, it carries more than 220,000 passengers every day.
