A new eight-year contract to manage York’s Park & Ride services is expected to be announced this Thursday (May 18).

A tender process took place earlier this year, with bus operators given the opportunity to bid for the new contract. York Council said this followed a dialogue with a number of bus companies which helped to better understand any issues which prevented them from submitting a viable bid for the Park & Ride last year.

The new contract will create additional capacity on the Askham Bar, Designer Outlet, Monks Cross and Rawcliffe Bar services.

Three new fully electric double-decker buses will be introduced on the Monks Cross route, while 11 electric single-decker buses will also be used on the Poppleton and Grimston Bar services.

Along with the electric vehicles, 18 new Euro 6 double-deckers and six new articulated Euro 6 buses will be introduced on the network.

If approved by the Executive at the council meeting on Thursday, May 18, the new contract arrangement will commence in February 2018.

The existing contract with First York will continue until the end of January 2018.
