The United States Secret Service’s new £1.3m coach purchased last year finally appeared in public during President Barack Obama’s recent ‘economic tour’ of the mid West.
The chasis was manufactured by Canadian company Prevost with specifications requested by the secret service implemented in the US by Tennessee-based Hemphill Brothers Coach.
The coach is liveried in black with dark tinted windows, flashing blue and red emergency lights and lavish interior, which speculators suggest features a virtual golf simulator and raised lectern with tele-prompters.
The exact specifications of the coach are unclear although it is widely expected security features will be similar to those of other US government vehicles such as the Cadillac ‘Beast’ limousine, which has thick reinforced doors and bullet and grenade proof glass.
The US Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said the two vehicles, dubbed ‘Bus Force One’, were bought for use by the president, the vice president and a future Republican presidential nominee.
