Bath Riverside coach park has ceased to be a long-stay facility – and is now a short-stay drop-off and pick-up only, with a limit of 30 minutes.

Work started on a £6.22m development project last Wednesday (January 20), a collaboration between Bath & North East Somerset Council (BNES) and the Environment Agency, which involves a new road link running through Riverside coach park. Once completed, traffic will be diverted from Green Park Road, allowing the widening of the river bank which will improve the River Avon’s ability to convey flood water, and establish a new riverside public open space.

Long-stay coach parking has been relocated to the First Bus depot at Weston Island (postcode BA2 9ES). Parking charges are inline with those which have been in force at Riverside.

Andrew Sherrington, General Manager for Bath, Wells, Weston-super-Mare told CBW: “We’re providing a solution for BNES for the two-year duration of the project while a longer-term solution is found.

“Acknowledging the fact our depot is not so conveniently located as the Riverside site, we’re giving drivers free travel on our service 5 on production of a voucher issued by us. We strongly advise operators and drivers to pre-book using the details on the BNES website. Coaches should park at the rear of the depot.”

Andrew was keen to stress: “It’s exceptionally important for drivers to adhere to our health and safety rules. They include the wearing of a high-visibility jacket, sticking to the speed limit and not straying from the designated walkways into, for example the workshops or cleaning bays. Drivers should also only park up after they have deposited their passengers – our depot is not for the use of the public.”

Facilities for drivers at the depot include WCs and  vending machines for drinks and snacks. BNES is also warning drivers to allow extra time when visiting the city as delays are expect in the centre, particularly during peak-times.
