Eminox, designers and manufacturers of emissions reduction systems, has secured a contract with Go North East to upgrade 40 buses with its SCRT technology.
Sunderland City Council, Durham County Council and Gateshead Council each successfully bid to secure over £600,000 from the Department for Transport’s Clean Bus Technology Fund – set up to encourage local authorities to contribute to improving air quality in their regions.
Eminox won the contract having demonstrated the most impressive emissions performance. The SCRT system reduced NO2 by 96.7%, the minimum requirement being 50% reduction. The buses have been fitted with Eminox’s SCRT system, which was specially designed to fit in the smaller space envelope of these buses.
The Eminox SCRT system combines CRT (Continuously Regenerating Trap) with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to produce a system that reduces both particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, as well as hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
The new SCRT technology will upgrade the 40 Scania L94 buses from Euro 3 to Euro 5 emissions performance, which brings them in line with the EU air quality standards for new vehicle emissions.
